
If you’ve ever been told to lose weight “because your BMI is high,” or have had your health reduced to a single number, you’re not alone. In fact, many of the clients I work with — especially women — come in feeling frustrated, judged, or even ashamed, all because of this one number: BMI.
Let me start by saying something very clearly: your health is more than your weight. And BMI is a deeply flawed tool when it comes to measuring health, well-being, or worth.
A Quick Look at BMI
BMI (Body Mass Index) is a calculation based on your weight and height. It was never designed to assess health. It doesn’t consider muscle mass, body composition, bone structure, genetics, hormonal health, or even how you feel in your own body. And yet, it continues to be treated like a medical gold standard in clinics and hospitals across India — often without context or care.
